Santa Clarita Climate Action Plan Update Meeting
Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at City Hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide an update on the City's continuing Climate Action Plan process. The Climate Action Plan, which is required by the California Office of the Attorney General in response to State Assembly Bill 32, is being completed pursuant to the City's new General Plan and will create strategies for the City to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions.
The meeting will be held in the Century Room at City Hall located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard on Thursday May 3, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information please contact David Peterson, Assistant Planner II with the City's Planning Division at (661) 284-1406 or via email at dpeterson@santa-clarita.com.
L.A. County HHW Round Up – Saturday, April 14, 2012
College of the Canyons
Operated by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. This one-day, drive-through HHW collection event for residents to drop off their household hazardous waste. There is a transportation limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.
This is event is free, open to all residents of L.A. County and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. An appointment is not needed to participate in the collection event.

Valencia Town Center mall, parking lot 6H (corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Citrus Street)
The City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department invite residents to attend the Safe and Secure Community Collection Event for proper personal document destruction, electronic waste, and prescription medications disposal. The Safe and Secure event will be held at the College of the Canyons.

Bike to Work Day - Thursday, May 17, 2012
The No Pollute Commute!
This friendly competition is among businesses in the City of Santa Clarita to see which employer can get the most employees to bike to work. It takes place during the biggest bicycle commute in California – during LA Metro's Bike to Work Week Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18, 2012.

River Rally – Saturday, September 22, 2012
River Clean-Up & Environmental Expo
Come help clean a portion of the Santa Clara River… the longest free-flowing river and one of the last two natural river systems remaining in Southern California. Be a part of the solution for a better environment by helping to preserve the river's natural beauty and variety of wildlife. Participants will be provided with gloves, collection bags, and refreshments.This year's event location is to be determined.

Transit Maintenance Facility
Take a tour of the City of Santa Clarita's Transit Maintenance Facility. This environmentally friendly building serves as the home for Santa Clarita Transit and achieved a LEED Gold certification. Smart Gardening Program
The County of Los Angeles offers a Countywide Smart Gardening Program that offers general information, workshops, and demonstrations for residents and businesses. Receive information on grass recycling, composting, water-wise gardening, fire-wise gardening and a variety of other topics. The program is offered on an ongoing basis.
Southern California Edison Offer Free Class to Help Customers ‘Go Solar'
Southern California Edison (SCE) is hosting a free Solar Connection Event in Santa Clarita to help connect residential customers interested in a solar generating or solar water heating system installation with contractors who can do the work. The Solar Connection Event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex – Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita.
At the event, SCE customers will first be given a short presentation, during which they will learn about the California Solar Initiative program incentives, tax credits and financing options that can help lower out-of-pocket costs. After the presentation, they will be free to meet with multiple, licensed solar and solar water heating contractors, and they may schedule an inspection to determine their home's potential for an effective solar system.
